Adam and Eve in the Garden Preschool Lesson
Preschool lesson (ages 3–6, 20 minutes)
1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “The man was not alone anymore.”
The LORD God made the first man from the dust of the ground. He breathed into him the breath of life. Then God put the man in the garden of Eden. The garden was full of trees with good food. The man took care of the garden. He worked there every day. But the man was all alone.
The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Comparable means like him, and just right for him.
So God formed every animal of the field. He formed every bird of the sky. Formed means made, the way you make shapes from clay. Then God brought them to the man, to see what he would call them.
The animals came, one after another. Big ones and little ones. Some walked, and some flew. Can you flap your arms like a bird? The man gave each one a name. Whatever the man called it, that was its name.
Moo! Baa! Tweet! Can you make the sound of your favorite animal?
The man gave names to all the farm animals. He gave names to the birds of the sky. He gave names to every animal of the field. There were so many animals! But none of them was just right for the man. None of them was like him.
So the LORD God made the man fall into a deep sleep. Shhh. While he slept, God took one of his ribs. Ribs are the bones in your side. Can you feel your ribs? Then God closed up the place again. Shhh. Let’s whisper. The man is still sleeping.
From the rib God made a woman. And God brought her to the man.
Then the man saw her. He said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh.” That means: she is just like me! “She will be called woman,” he said. The man was not alone anymore.
That is why a man leaves his father and his mother. He joins with his wife, and they become one. A husband and a wife belong together.
The man and the woman became husband and wife. They lived together in God’s garden. They had no clothes on, and they did not feel shy at all. The man was not alone anymore.
God made people in his own image. That means people are a little bit like God. He made them man and woman. And God blessed them.
God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth.” That means: have children and grandchildren. Fill the whole world with families! The man was not alone anymore.
Later the man gave his wife a name. He called her Eve, because she would be the mother of all the living. All the people in the world come from her family.
God made the man and the woman, and he blessed them both. The man was not alone anymore.
3. Talk together (3 min)
- If you could give a new animal its name, what would you call it?
- How do you think the man felt when he met the woman?
4. Move (3 min)
Refrain Freeze: move around the room; when you say the refrain, everyone freezes and says it together.
5. Make (4 min)
Draw a line to who said it.
6. Verse and prayer (2 min)
“It is not good for the man to be alone” — Genesis 2:18 (not good → shake your head; to be alone → hug yourself with both arms)
Dear God, thank you for the animals you made. Thank you for my family and my friends. Amen.

The Bible story
Step into God's very first garden, where He shapes Adam from dust, fills Eden with sweet fruit, and gives a gentle rule that shows how much He loves us.
Talk about it
- What did God make at the very beginning? — A beautiful world
- What did God use to shape the first man? — Dust from the ground
- How did Adam come alive? — God breathed life into him
- What was the name of the special garden? — Eden
- What grew in the middle of the garden? — Two special trees
- What one gentle rule did God give Adam? — Don't eat from one special tree
Where is Jesus in this story?
God formed Adam from dust and breathed the breath of life into him (Genesis 2:7). The New Testament calls Jesus “the last Adam” and quotes this very verse: the first Adam became a living person, but the last Adam, Jesus, is the one who gives life (1 Corinthians 15:45). Adam received life from God. Jesus gives God's own life to everyone who trusts Him, including you.
What God wants to tell us
God did not make the world by accident. He carefully planned a home, shaped Adam with His own hands, and gave him a friend so he would never be alone. That same God made you on purpose too. He knows your name, He loves you deeply, and He wants to be close to you every single day.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for making the world so beautiful and for making me on purpose. Thank You that You know my name and love me so much. Help me to trust You and stay close to You each day, just like Adam and Eve in the garden. Amen.
