The Crowd No One Could Count Preschool Lesson
Preschool lesson (ages 3–6, 20 minutes)
1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “A crowd so big that no one could count it!”
John, the friend of Jesus, was on the island of Patmos. There God showed him a vision. A vision is like a dream that God shows you. John looked, and he saw a great crowd of people. A crowd so big that no one could count it!
The people came from every nation, every tribe, and every language. They came from every land in the whole world! Big and small, near and far.
They stood before the throne of God and before the Lamb. The Lamb is Jesus. They all wore white robes. In their hands they held palm branches. Palm branches are big green leaves from a palm tree. People waved them when they were glad. Long before, people had waved palm branches when Jesus rode into Jerusalem. Can you wave a palm branch? Wave, wave, wave!
They cried with a loud voice. “Salvation be to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Salvation means that God saves us. What a great, loud, happy sound!
All the angels stood around the throne. The elders and the four living creatures were there too. They all bowed down low before the throne. They worshiped God.
They said, “Amen! Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might. Be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” Seven big words of praise, all for God!
Let’s try to count the crowd! One, two, three, four, five, six… Oh, there are too many! A crowd so big that no one could count it!
Then one of the elders asked John a question. “These who are arrayed in the white robes, who are they?” Arrayed means dressed.
John said, “My lord, you know.” So the elder told him. These people had come through very hard times. And they had been made clean by Jesus, the Lamb. Their robes were washed white.
Now they stood before God’s throne. They served him day and night. And God would spread his tent over them, to keep them safe. Like a big, cozy blanket over you at night. A crowd so big that no one could count it!
The elder said, “They will never be hungry or thirsty any more. The sun won’t beat on them, nor any heat.” No more hot, tired days!
“For the Lamb who is in the middle of the throne shepherds them.” Jesus is like a good shepherd. A shepherd takes care of his sheep. He leads them to fresh water.
The elder said that the Lamb “leads them to springs of life-giving waters.” A spring is where fresh, cool water bubbles up out of the ground.
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Can you gently wipe your cheek, like this? No more crying. No more sadness.
God has room for people from every land, and he wipes away every tear. A crowd so big that no one could count it!
3. Talk together (3 min)
- What do you think it sounded like when the whole crowd sang to God?
- Who would you like to see in that big crowd one day?
4. Move (3 min)
Refrain Freeze: move around the room; when you say the refrain, everyone freezes and says it together.
5. Make (4 min)
Draw people from many lands in white robes, waving palm branches.
6. Verse and prayer (2 min)
“A great multitude which no man could count” — Revelation 7:9 (a great multitude → spread your arms very wide; no man could count → count on your fingers, then shake your head)
Dear God, thank you that people from every land can belong to you. Thank you that one day you will wipe away every tear. Amen.
Lesson for older kids (ages 6–10)

The Bible story
A friend of Jesus named John sees a wonderful vision: a crowd so huge no one can count it, all singing with joy in God's shining home.
Talk about it
- Where was John when God gave him the vision? — On a rocky island
- What special thing did God give John? — A vision of heaven
- What were the four angels holding back? — The winds
- What did the angel say to do before any harm came? — Seal God's servants first
- Where did God place His seal? — On their foreheads
- How big was the great crowd John saw? — Too big to count
Where is Jesus in this story?
In John's vision, the huge crowd wears white robes that were washed in the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 7:14). That means Jesus' death on the cross makes people clean from sin. And the Lamb becomes their Shepherd, leading them to springs of living water (Revelation 7:17). The same Jesus who gave his life for you wants to lead you, too.
What God wants to tell us
God's family is bigger than we could ever count, with room for people from every country and every kind of home. He knows each of us by name, marks us as His own, and promises a day with no more tears. You are never just a face in the crowd to God. You are His beloved child, wanted and welcomed forever.
Prayer
Father God, thank You that Your family is so big and that there is room for me too. Thank You that You know my name and hold me safe. Help me remember that one day You will wipe away every tear. I love You. Amen.
