Naaman and the Brave Servant Girl Preschool Lesson
Preschool lesson (ages 3–6, 20 minutes)
1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “Only God could make Naaman well.”
Naaman was the captain of the army of Syria. He was a great man, and very brave. The king of Syria liked him very much. But Naaman had leprosy. Leprosy is a bad sickness of the skin. No one could make it go away. Only God could make Naaman well.
In Naaman’s house there was a little girl from Israel. Soldiers had taken her far away from her home. Now she helped Naaman’s wife. She said, “I wish that my lord were with the prophet in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy.” A prophet tells people God’s words.
Someone told Naaman what the girl said. The king of Syria said, “Go now. And I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”
So Naaman went to Israel. He took lots of silver and gold. He took ten sets of fine clothes as gifts. Let’s count ten on our fingers: one, two, three, four, five. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten!
First he went to the king of Israel. The king read the letter. He was so upset, he tore his clothes. “Am I God?” he said. He could not make Naaman well. He thought the king of Syria just wanted a fight. Only God could make Naaman well.
Elisha the prophet heard about it. “Let him come now to me,” he said. “He shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” So Naaman came with his horses and chariots. Clip-clop, clip-clop! He stopped at Elisha’s door.
Elisha did not even come out. He sent a helper with a message. “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and you shall be clean.”
Naaman was angry! “I thought he would surely come out to me,” he said. He thought Elisha would call on the name of the LORD his God. He thought Elisha would wave his hand over the sick place. “Aren’t the rivers at home better?” Naaman had two big rivers at home, called Abanah and Pharpar. And he went away, very angry. Can you make an angry face like Naaman?
But his servants came to him. “My father! If the prophet asked for some great thing, you would do it. But he only says: Wash, and be clean.” That was easy to do!
So Naaman went down to the Jordan River. He dipped himself in the water, just as Elisha said. Splash! Let’s count the dips with him! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven!
And his skin became like the skin of a little child. He was clean! The sickness was gone. Only God could make Naaman well.
Naaman went back to Elisha with all his men. He stood before him. “I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel!” he said.
Naaman wanted to give Elisha a gift. But Elisha said, “I will receive none.” Naaman said that from now on, he would worship only the LORD. Elisha said, “Go in peace.”
The LORD had healed Naaman, and Naaman came to know the true God. Only God could make Naaman well.
3. Talk together (3 min)
- Why do you think Naaman was angry at first?
- How do you think the little girl felt when Naaman came home well?
4. Move (3 min)
Refrain Freeze: move around the room; when you say the refrain, everyone freezes and says it together.
5. Make (4 min)
Color the 7 splashes for Naaman’s 7 dips in the Jordan River.
6. Verse and prayer (2 min)
“Wash, and be clean” — 2 Kings 5:13 (Wash → rub your arms like you are washing; be clean → hold up your hands and smile)
Dear God, thank you that you can make people well. Thank you for the little girl who told about you. Amen.
Lesson for older kids (ages 6–10)
Big idea: Small acts of kindness matter
Memory verse: “His flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” — 2 Kings 5:14 · WEB

Where is Jesus in this story?
Jesus Himself talked about Naaman. In His hometown, Jesus said there were many people with leprosy in Israel in Elisha's time, “yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian” (Luke 4:27). Jesus was showing that God's kindness reaches outsiders too. He came for every person from every nation, and that includes you.
What God wants to tell us
God shows us that we are never too little to make a big difference. The servant girl was young, far from home, and had every reason to feel forgotten, yet she chose kindness and shared what she knew about God. Her few brave words led a mighty man all the way to healing. You do not have to be grown up, strong, or important for God to use you. When you are kind, when you tell others about God's love, and when you trust Him even in small things, God can do wonderful things through you.
Prayer
Father God, thank You for loving me even when I feel small. Help me to be brave and kind like the servant girl, and to trust You even when things seem too simple to work. Thank You that You make hearts new and clean. Help me to point my friends to Your love. Amen.
