2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “Everything God made can praise him!”
The Bible has a happy song called Psalm 148. It calls everything God made to praise him. To praise means to tell God how great he is. Let’s go on a praise walk, from the sky down to the ground!
The song starts like this: “Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens! Praise him in the heights!” Heights are the places way up high. In the old Hebrew words, “Praise the LORD” is “Hallelujah!” Can you say it? Hallelujah!
First, look up high. “Praise him, all his angels!” The angels in heaven praise God. Everything God made can praise him!
“Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you shining stars!” The sun shines in the day. The moon and stars shine at night. Can you make your fingers twinkle like stars?
“Praise him, you heavens of heavens.” That means the sky, and the sky above the sky! It is as high as you can think.
Why should they praise him? “For he commanded, and they were created.” God spoke, and there they were! And God keeps them in their place, forever and ever. He made a rule for them. So the sun comes up every morning. And the moon comes out at night. Everything God made can praise him!
Now look down at the earth. “Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures.” Big whales swim in the deep sea. Splash!
Lightning and hail, snow and clouds, and the stormy wind praise him too. Whoosh! Snow falls soft and white. Hail is little balls of ice. They all do what God tells them to do.
The mountains and hills praise him. The fruit trees and the tall cedar trees praise him. Cedars are very tall trees with sweet-smelling wood. Can you stretch your arms up high like a tall tree? Everything God made can praise him!
Wild animals and farm animals praise him. Roar! Moo! Small creatures and flying birds praise him. Tweet, tweet!
How can a mountain praise God? It cannot sing. But it is so big and strong. That shows how great God is. Another psalm says, “The heavens declare the glory of God.”
And people too! Kings and princes, and all people everywhere. People in big cities and in little houses.
“Both young men and maidens, old men and children.” Maidens are young women. Grandpas and grandmas, moms and dads, and little children too. That means you!
“Let them praise the LORD’s name, for his name alone is exalted.” Exalted means high above everything. God is the greatest of all. His people are near to him.
Another psalm ends like this: “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!” Can you take a big, slow breath in? And now breathe out slowly. Every breath is a gift from God.
Tonight the moon and the stars are praising him too. God made it all, and his glory is above the earth and the heavens. Everything God made can praise him!

Where is Jesus in this story?
The whole world was made to praise God, and one day God sent His own Son, Jesus, to bring that praise to life. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the children sang and shouted for joy, and Jesus said that even the stones would cry out if the people stayed quiet. Just as the sun, the sea and the birds praise God simply by being what He made them to be, Jesus shows us how much God loves us and invites us to praise Him with happy, thankful hearts forever.
What God wants to tell us
Psalm 148 shows us that God made a whole world full of wonderful things, and every single one of them can say thank you to Him in its own way. The sun praises God by shining, the birds praise Him by singing, and even the great sea creatures praise Him. You do not have to be big or clever or grown up to praise God. Whether you are singing, laughing, helping a friend or just looking up at the stars with a happy heart, you can join the biggest song in the whole world and tell God how good and loving He is.
Prayer
Father God, thank You for the bright sun, the shining stars, the splashing sea and every little bird. Thank You that I can praise You too. Help me to sing to You with a happy heart every day. Amen.
