1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “The LORD led the way.”
Abraham was very old. His son Isaac was all grown up now. Abraham wanted a good wife for Isaac. So he sent his oldest servant far away, to Abraham’s own family.
Abraham told him, “The LORD will send his angel before you.” The servant took ten camels and many good gifts. Let’s count the camels! One, two, three, four, five. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten! Off they went. The LORD led the way.
One evening the servant came to a well outside a city. A well is a deep hole where people get water. In the evening, the women came out to get water there. The servant made the camels kneel down to rest.
The servant prayed. “LORD, the God of my master Abraham, please give me success today.” Success means that things go well.
Then he asked God for a sign. “I will ask a young woman for a drink. Maybe she will say, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink.’ Then let her be the one.”
Before he finished praying, Rebekah came. She had a water jar on her shoulder. She filled her jar at the spring. The servant ran to meet her. “Please give me a drink,” he said. “Drink, my lord,” said Rebekah.
Then she said, “I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking.” She ran back and forth to the well. Splash, splash! Ten thirsty camels drink a lot of water! Can you carry a heavy water jar like Rebekah?
The servant watched her quietly. When the camels were done, he gave her a gold ring and two gold bracelets. “Whose daughter are you?” he asked. Rebekah told him. She was from Abraham’s own family!
“We have straw and food for the camels,” she said. “And room for you to stay.” The servant bowed his head and worshiped the LORD. He said, “The LORD has led me on the way.” The LORD led the way.
Rebekah ran home to tell her family. Her brother Laban ran out to the well. “Come in, you blessed of the LORD,” he said. So the servant came in, and the camels got straw and food. Munch, munch!
Food was set before the servant. But he said, “I will not eat until I have told my message.” He told them everything. He told them how God had answered his prayer at the well.
Rebekah’s family said, “The thing proceeds from the LORD.” That means: God has done this! They said Rebekah could go and marry Isaac. The LORD led the way.
The servant gave Rebekah more gifts of silver and gold, and pretty clothes. In the morning her family asked her, “Will you go with this man?” Rebekah said, “I will go.”
So Rebekah rode a camel to a new land. Clip-clop, sway, sway. One evening Isaac was out in the field. He looked up. Camels were coming!
Rebekah saw Isaac, and she got down from her camel. “Who is the man walking in the field to meet us?” she asked. “It is my master,” said the servant. Rebekah covered her face with her veil – a soft cloth.
The servant told Isaac everything. Rebekah became Isaac’s wife, and he loved her. Isaac had been sad since his mother Sarah died. Now he was comforted. The LORD led the way.
God heard the servant’s prayer and answered it, every step of the long way. The LORD led the way.

The Bible story
A tired servant prays at a well for God to choose the perfect wife for Isaac — then a kind girl named Rebekah waters his camels, right on cue!
Talk about it
- Who wanted to find a good wife for his son Isaac? — Abraham
- Who did Abraham send to find the wife? — His chief servant
- How many camels did the servant take with him? — Ten
- Where did the servant stop to rest and pray? — Beside a well
- What did the servant ask God to show him? — The right girl for Isaac
- What was the name of the kind girl at the well? — Rebekah
Where is Jesus in this story?
When asked if she would go with the servant to marry Isaac, a man she had never seen, Rebekah said, “I will go” (Genesis 24:58). She trusted what she had heard about him. Peter wrote something similar about us and Jesus: “You have not seen him, but still you love him” (1 Peter 1:8). You can trust Jesus now, long before you see Him face to face.
What God wants to tell us
This story shows us that God cares about even the small parts of our lives, like who we will love and where we will go. Abraham's servant did not know the way, but he prayed and trusted, and God gently led him to just the right person at just the right moment. We can trust God to guide us too, one step at a time, because He loves us and always keeps His promises.
Prayer
Father God, thank You for leading Abraham's servant to kind Rebekah at the well. Please guide me too, and help me to be gentle and brave like her. I trust You to lead me the right way every day. Amen.
