The Queen of Sheba Visits Preschool Lesson
Preschool lesson (ages 3–6, 20 minutes)
1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “The LORD gave Solomon wisdom.”
King Solomon lived in Jerusalem. When he became king, he asked God for something special. Not for gold. Not for a long life. He asked for an understanding heart. And God gave him a wise and understanding heart.
God gave Solomon wisdom like the sand on the seashore. That is a lot of wisdom! Solomon knew about trees, big and small. He knew about animals and birds, bugs and fish. He spoke three thousand proverbs. Proverbs are short, wise sayings. Can you flap like a bird? Now swim like a fish!
Far, far away lived the queen of Sheba. She heard about King Solomon. People said he was very wise because of the LORD. Was it really true? The queen wanted to find out. The LORD gave Solomon wisdom.
So the queen set out on a long trip. She came with a great caravan. A caravan is a long line of travelers and animals. Her camels carried spices, gold, and precious stones. Spices are things that smell and taste good, like cinnamon. Plod, plod, plod! Can you walk slowly like a tall camel?
At last she came to Jerusalem. She wanted to test Solomon with hard questions. So she talked with him about everything that was in her heart. Hmm! Can you put your finger on your chin and think hard?
Solomon answered all her questions. There was not one question too hard for the king. The LORD gave Solomon wisdom.
The queen looked all around. She saw the house Solomon had built. She saw the food on his table. She saw his servants in their fine clothes. She saw the way he went up to the LORD’s house. It took her breath away!
She said to the king, “It was a true report that I heard! I didn’t believe the words until I came and my eyes had seen it. Behold, not even half was told me!” Not even half! It was even better than she had heard.
“Happy are your men,” she said. “Happy are these your servants who stand continually before you, who hear your wisdom.” They could listen to the wise king every day.
Then she said, “Blessed is the LORD your God, who delighted in you.” Delighted means he was very glad with Solomon. “Because the LORD loved Israel forever, therefore he made you king.” The LORD gave Solomon wisdom.
The queen gave Solomon gifts of gold. She gave him spices and precious stones. There were more spices than anyone had ever seen! Sniff, sniff! Can you smell the spices?
Ships also brought special wood from far away. Solomon used it to make harps for the singers. Strum, strum! Nobody ever saw such wood again.
And Solomon gave the queen whatever she asked for, and many more gifts too. Then the queen and her servants went back to their own land. She had seen how wise Solomon was.
God is the one who gives wisdom. And he loves to help you learn and grow, day by day. The LORD gave Solomon wisdom.

Where is Jesus in this story?
King Solomon was famous for being very wise, and people traveled far to hear him. But many years later, Jesus came, and He said that someone even greater than Solomon was here. Jesus is wiser than any king who ever lived, and He welcomes everyone who comes looking for Him. Just as the queen journeyed far to find true wisdom, we can come to Jesus, who fills our hearts with God's love and shows us the very best way to live.
What God wants to tell us
The Queen of Sheba discovered that King Solomon's amazing wisdom did not come from himself; it was a gift that God had lovingly given him. When we are clever, kind, brave, or good at something, those gifts come from God too. God shares good things with us so that we can help others and make the world a happier place. And just like the queen, when we see something wonderful, the very best thing we can do is stop and thank God for it.
Prayer
Father God, thank You for making people wise and kind, and thank You that every good gift comes from You. Please help me to use the gifts You give me to help others and make You smile. And help me to always stop and say thank You. Amen.
