The Woman Who Touched His Cloak Preschool Lesson
Preschool lesson (ages 3–6, 20 minutes)
1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “Jesus had time for her.”
There was a woman who had been sick for twelve long years. Can you count to twelve with me? One, two, three … all the way to twelve! Twelve years is a long, long time to be sick.
She went to many doctors. Doctors are people who try to help sick people get well. But she suffered many things from them. She spent all her money on them. But she did not get better. She got worse.
Then she heard about Jesus. She heard about the things Jesus did. Maybe she hoped, “Jesus can help me.”
One day Jesus came back across the big lake in a boat. A huge crowd came to the shore to see him. A man named Jairus came too. His little girl was very sick. So Jesus went with Jairus to his house.
The big crowd followed Jesus. They pushed and pressed all around him. Squeeze, squeeze! Can you hug yourself tight, like a squeezing crowd? The sick woman was in the crowd too.
She said, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be made well.” She came up behind Jesus. She reached out her hand. Can you reach out your hand, like her?
She touched his clothes. Just one little touch. And right away she was healed! She could feel it in her body. Her sickness was gone.
Jesus stopped. He knew that power had gone out from him – his power to make people well. He turned around in the crowd. “Who touched my clothes?” he asked. Jesus had time for her.
His friends said, “Look at all these people pushing you! And you ask, ‘Who touched me?’” So many people were touching Jesus!
But Jesus kept looking around. He wanted to see the one who had done it. Who do you think touched him?
The woman knew what had happened to her. She was afraid. She was shaking. She came and fell down in front of Jesus. She told him the whole truth. Jesus had time for her.
Jesus looked at her. He spoke kind words to her. He said, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.”
Daughter – that is what a mom or a dad calls their girl. Faith means trusting Jesus. Peace means feeling calm and safe inside. Jesus had time for her.
There were so many people all around. Jesus was on his way to help Jairus’ little girl. But Jesus stopped for this one woman. He listened to her whole story. To Jesus, she was not just someone in a crowd. He called her “Daughter.”
Twelve years she had been sick. Now she was well! No more doctors. No more being sick. She could go home in peace.
Then Jesus went on with Jairus, to help his little girl too. But that is a story for another night.
Jesus has power to make us well. And he cares for each one of us, big or little. Jesus had time for her.
3. Talk together (3 min)
- How do you think the woman felt when Jesus called her “Daughter”?
- What do you think it was like to be in such a big, pushing crowd?
4. Move (3 min)
Refrain Freeze: move around the room; when you say the refrain, everyone freezes and says it together.
5. Make (4 min)
Draw a line to who said it.
6. Verse and prayer (2 min)
“Your faith has made you well. Go in peace” — Mark 5:34 (your faith → both hands on your heart; made you well → arms open wide; Go in peace → wave gently goodbye)
Dear Jesus, thank you that you see me, even in a big crowd. Thank you that you care for me. Amen.
Lesson for older kids (ages 6–10)
Big idea: Jesus sees quiet, brave faith
Memory verse: “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.” — Mark 5:34 · WEB
The Bible story
A tired, sick woman had tried every doctor for twelve long years, until one crowded day she reached out just to touch Jesus' cloak.
Talk about it
- How long had the woman been sick? — Twelve years
- Who could not help the woman get better? — Many doctors
- Who did the woman hear about? — Jesus
- What did the woman believe about Jesus? — He could heal her
- What did she think would heal her? — Touching His clothes
- What was around Jesus when she came? — A big crowd
Where is Jesus in this story?
This woman had spent everything and tried everyone, but only Jesus could truly make her whole. When she touched His cloak, His healing power flowed out to her freely, without her paying a single coin. That is a picture of what Jesus does for all of us: He heals, forgives, and rescues out of pure love, not because we have earned it. He calls her "Daughter," welcoming her into God's family, and He invites every child today to come close and trust Him too.
What God wants to tell us
Even in a huge, noisy crowd, Jesus noticed one gentle woman who reached out to Him. He was never too busy or too important to stop for her. This reminds us that God sees every one of us, even when we feel small, shy, or forgotten. No worry is too little to bring to Him, and no person is ever lost in the crowd. When we trust Jesus and come to Him just as we are, He welcomes us with kindness and peace.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You that You always see me, even when I feel small or shy. Help me to be brave and to trust You like the woman who touched Jesus' cloak. Thank You for Your kind love and Your gift of peace. Amen.
