The Three Visitors — Sarah Laughs Preschool Lesson
Preschool lesson (ages 3–6, 20 minutes)
1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “Nothing is too hard for the LORD.”
Abraham and Sarah were very, very old. Abraham was almost one hundred years old. Sarah was almost ninety. God had promised them a son. But they still had no baby. And now they were much too old to have one. Nothing is too hard for the LORD.
Abraham and Sarah lived in a tent, near some big oak trees at a place called Mamre. One day it was very hot. Abraham sat at the door of his tent. He looked up. Three men stood near him! Who were they?
Abraham ran to meet them. He bowed down low to the ground. Bowing down low shows great respect. Can you bow down like Abraham?
“Please don’t go away,” Abraham said. “Let me bring a little water. Wash your feet, and rest under the tree. I will get you some bread.” People walked in sandals on dusty roads, so their feet got dirty. The men said, “Very well, do as you have said.”
Abraham hurried into the tent. “Quickly, make some bread cakes!” he told Sarah. He asked for lots and lots of flour – enough to make bread for many, many people! Sarah had to knead the dough. To knead means to push and squeeze it with your hands. Can you knead some dough? Push, squeeze, push!
Then Abraham ran to his cows. He picked a young calf, and his servant cooked it. Abraham brought butter and milk too. Hurry, hurry! He set the meal before the men. Abraham stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
When the meal was done, the men had a question. “Where is Sarah, your wife?” they asked. “There, in the tent,” said Abraham.
Then one of them spoke. It was the LORD himself! “I will certainly return to you at about this time next year. Sarah your wife will have a son.” A son! A baby boy for Abraham and Sarah!
Sarah was listening behind the tent door. She laughed to herself. Hee hee! “I am so old,” she thought. “How can I have a baby now?” Can you laugh like Sarah?
The LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Nothing is too hard for the LORD.
“At the set time I will return to you,” the LORD said. “And Sarah will have a son.” The set time means the time God picked.
Sarah was afraid. “I didn’t laugh,” she said. But the LORD said, “No, but you did laugh.” God knew everything. He even knew what Sarah laughed about inside. Nothing is too hard for the LORD.
God had already told Abraham the baby’s name. “You shall call his name Isaac,” God had said. Isaac means “he laughs.” What a good name for this baby!
Old Abraham. Old Sarah. And a baby coming next year, at the very time God had picked! Nothing is too hard for the LORD.
God had made a promise to Abraham and Sarah, and God would keep it. Nothing is too hard for the LORD.
3. Talk together (3 min)
- Why do you think Sarah laughed when she heard about the baby?
- What do you think Abraham and Sarah talked about after the visitors left?
4. Move (3 min)
Refrain Freeze: move around the room; when you say the refrain, everyone freezes and says it together.
5. Make (4 min)
Color the 3 visitors and Abraham’s tent.
6. Verse and prayer (2 min)
“Is anything too hard for the LORD?” — Genesis 18:14 (too hard → pretend to lift something very heavy; for the LORD → point up high and smile)
Dear God, nothing is too hard for you. Thank you that you always keep your promises. Amen.

Where is Jesus in this story?
“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” God asked when Sarah laughed (Genesis 18:14). Hundreds of years later, an angel told Mary she would have a baby even though she was not yet married, and he said almost the same words: “Nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). The God who gave Sarah her son gave the whole world His Son, Jesus.
What God wants to tell us
When Sarah heard she would have a baby, it seemed far too hard to be true. But God shows us that He can do anything, even the things that feel impossible to us. God always keeps His promises in His own perfect time. We can trust Him with our biggest hopes and our longest waits, knowing He loves us and never, ever forgets.
Prayer
Loving God, thank You for always keeping Your promises, even when things seem impossible. Help me to trust You and to welcome others with a kind heart, just like Abraham. Please fill my heart with joy and laughter. Amen.
