The Women Who Helped Jesus Preschool Lesson
Preschool lesson (ages 3–6, 20 minutes)
1. Welcome (3 min)
Sit in a circle, greet every child by name and show one thing from the story to touch.
2. The little story (5 min)
Teach the refrain first: “They helped Jesus with what they had.”
Jesus went from town to town, and from village to village. Everywhere he told the good news of God’s Kingdom. Step, step, step. Can you walk in place, like Jesus on the road?
The twelve apostles went with him. They walked a long way together, day after day. They all needed food to eat.
Some women went with Jesus too. They had been sick or troubled. But Jesus had healed them. Now they went with him from town to town. They helped Jesus with what they had.
First there was Mary, called Magdalene. Jesus had set her free from seven bad spirits. Hold up one finger for Mary!
Then there was Joanna. Her husband Chuza took care of King Herod’s house. That was a big, important job. Hold up two fingers for Joanna!
And there was Susanna. Three fingers for Susanna! And many other women came along too.
These women used their own money and things. They took care of Jesus and his friends. Maybe they bought bread. Maybe they cooked meals. They helped Jesus with what they had.
These women did not leave Jesus, even when hard days came. They had followed him all the way from Galilee. They were there when Jesus died on the cross. They watched from far away. It was a very sad day.
The women saw the tomb where Jesus’ body was laid. A tomb is a grave cut into the rock. Then they went home. They made spices and oils that smell sweet, for Jesus’ body. On the Sabbath, the day of rest, they rested.
Very early on Sunday morning, the sky was just getting light. The women went back to the tomb. They brought their sweet spices. They helped Jesus with what they had.
But look! The big stone was rolled away from the tomb. They went in. Jesus’ body was not there! What had happened?
Suddenly two men stood by them in shining, dazzling clothes. The women were afraid. They bowed down low, with their faces to the ground. Can you bow down low?
The men said, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He isn’t here, but is risen.” Risen means he is alive again!
The men said, “Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee.” And the women remembered! Jesus had told them that he would rise again on the third day.
So the women went back. There were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women. They told the apostles all these things. Jesus is alive!
At first the apostles did not believe them. They thought it was just silly talk. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. He looked in, and he saw only the cloths that had been around Jesus’ body. Peter went home, wondering.
These women had helped Jesus with their money and their spices. And God gave them the best news of all to tell. They helped Jesus with what they had.

The Bible story
When Jesus traveled from town to town sharing God's love, a group of brave, kind women walked with Him and helped in ways nobody expected.
Talk about it
- What good news did Jesus preach as He traveled? — The news of God's kingdom
- Who walked beside Jesus as His close friends? — The twelve disciples
- Besides the twelve, who else traveled with Jesus? — A group of women
- What had Jesus done for these women? — Healed them
- Which woman did Jesus set free from seven evil spirits? — Mary Magdalene
- What was the name of another woman who helped? — Susanna
Where is Jesus in this story?
These same women stayed close to Jesus when others ran away. They watched at the cross and saw where he was buried (Luke 23:49, 55). On Easter morning, Mary Magdalene, Joanna and others were the first to hear that he was alive (Luke 24:10), and in the garden the risen Jesus gently called Mary Magdalene by name (John 20:16). Jesus treasures faithful love.
What God wants to tell us
God shows us that helping is a gift anyone can give. These women were not kings or leaders, but they used what they had, their time, their money, and their kind hands, to care for Jesus and His friends. You do not have to be big or famous to do something beautiful for God. When you share, care, and help, God sees your loving heart and He is very glad. Little acts of kindness are precious to Him.
Prayer
Loving God, thank You for the kind women who helped Jesus. Please help me to have a caring heart and to share what I have with others. Show me how to help someone today, just because I love You. Amen.
