Jesus Calms the Storm
Mark 4:35–41 · Tiny Bible Story for ages 2–4
It is evening. Jesus says, “Let’s go over to the other side.” Wave bye-bye: bye, bye!
Jesus and his friends get in the boat. Other little boats come too. Jesus is with them in the boat. Row, row, row the boat!
Jesus sleeps at the back of the boat. His head is on a pillow. Snore, snore. Shh! Lay your head down.
Whoosh goes the wind! Splash go the waves! Water comes into the boat. Blow like the wind!
Splash, splash! The boat is full of water. Jesus is with them in the boat. Rock from side to side!
His friends wake Jesus up. “Teacher, don’t you care?” Wake up, Jesus! Wake up! Wake up!
Jesus gets up and speaks to the wind. He says to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Hold up your hand: stop!
The wind stops. The waves stop. All is calm, so calm. Finger on your lips: shh!
Jesus asks, “Why are you so afraid?” His friends ask, “Who then is this?” Say it: It is Jesus!
Even the wind obeys Jesus. Even the sea obeys Jesus. Wow, wow! Wiggle like waves, then stop!
Jesus makes the wind and the sea calm. Shh, shh. Jesus is with them in the boat. Rock slowly: shh, shh.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for being with me. Amen.
For grown-ups: Make the wind loud, then whisper “Peace! Be still!” together and get very quiet. Ask: “Who is with them in the boat?”
