The Lost Sheep
Luke 15:3–7 · Tiny Bible Story for ages 2–4
Jesus tells a story. It is about a shepherd and his sheep. Baa, baa! Baa, baa, baa!
The shepherd has one hundred sheep. So many sheep! One, two, three… Count: one, two, three!
Oh no! One sheep is lost. Where is the sheep? Hide your eyes: where is it?
The shepherd leaves all the other sheep. He goes to look for the lost one. Off he goes! Wave bye-bye to the sheep!
He looks and looks. Is it here, or is it there? Where is the lost sheep? Look up! Look down!
He looks until he finds it. There it is! The lost sheep is found! Clap, clap! Hooray!
He puts the sheep on his shoulders. Up, up! He is so happy! Hands on your shoulders!
Step, step, step. He carries it all the way home. The lost sheep is found! March home: step, step!
He calls his friends and neighbors. “Rejoice with me! I have found my sheep!” Jump for joy!
Jesus says there is joy in heaven. So much joy! Joy, joy, joy! Show me a big smile!
The sheep is home, safe and sound. The shepherd is so glad. The lost sheep is found! Give a soft, sleepy hug.
Prayer: Thank you, God, for loving me so much. Amen.
For grown-ups: Play peekaboo on the lost page: hide the sheep with your hand, then find it. Ask: “Where does the shepherd carry the sheep?”
