Zacchaeus Climbs a Tree
Luke 19:1–10 · Tiny Bible Story for ages 2–4
Jesus comes to the town of Jericho. So many people! Wave, wave! Wave hello to Jesus!
Here is Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus is a rich man. He has lots of money. Say his name: Zacchaeus!
Zacchaeus wants to see Jesus. But he is short. So many people are in the way! Stand up on your tiptoes!
Zacchaeus runs ahead. Run, run, run! He climbs up a tree. Climb, climb, climb up high!
Up in the tree, Zacchaeus waits. Where is Jesus? Is he coming? Peek through the leaves!
Here comes Jesus! He stops and looks up. Jesus sees Zacchaeus! Look up! Who is there?
Jesus says, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down! Today I must stay at your house.” Slide down: wheee!
Zacchaeus hurries down. He takes Jesus home, so happy! Jesus sees Zacchaeus! Jump for joy!
Some people grumble. Grumble, grumble! But Jesus stays with Zacchaeus. Grumble low: hmm, hmm!
Zacchaeus stands up. “Half of my things I give to the poor.” Here you go! Hold out your hands: here!
If he took too much, he pays back four times. One, two, three, four! Count to four with me!
Jesus comes to look for the lost. Jesus comes to save them. Jesus sees Zacchaeus! Whisper: Jesus sees you.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for seeing me. Amen.
For grown-ups: Stretch up on tiptoes, then “climb” with your hands. Count to four together on the coin page. On the last page, say softly: “Jesus sees you too.”
